Some of the final edits we made before completion
This is the second verse of our music video as you can see there a a range of edits and base tracks which where placed on the final cut programme. This is the area which had to be tidied up the most as edits where not in lined perfctly which made shots pop up when they weren't supposes to. Inaccuracies had to be dealt with and we finally were enable to complete this problem.
We used hand held camera footage shots of me in the video, we did various amounts of match catch shots of me walking and running in this close up camera frame as we believed it would display my emotions better to the audience.
Below is the screenshot on Fianl cut of the shots which are placed with markers which orders the programme to switch from one footage to the other as a result of of timing it in a four beat.
We cut of the duration of time when I was walking (Julien) in the second verse because the footage was of me walking in a mildly slow pace and that didn't correlate with the pace of the beat we made these slower.
Below is how the edit of the scene above and Ben cut this scene and made it shorter.
When Rebecca gave us feedback she stated the ending of the second verse of our song should have fast paced footage so suit the beat. Just like the scene of me walking we would include match cuts from Ben to me then back to Ben and finally of me completing ma run on the long tunnel in the building.

Unfortunately we didn't get a final screen shot of the ending nonetheless Rebecca told us to swap the short footages of Ben's performance for better quality footage as he looked small due to him being out of frame in the shots. These where the fast edits at the ending of our music video, Ben worked on this and Julien edited the ending which we changed as the group came to conclusion that it took to long to end when the camera was panning the view of the building scenery.
Digi-Pack Photoshopped, Final Copy W/ explanation
The photoshopping begins with this image. It's our motif which will be used as our front cover for our digi-pack. However, I've decided to undergo a few changes to give it more flare:
I started off by adding the red outlines using the paint bucket, also outlining 'AIR'. It can be quite tedious as clicking to fill some points causes it fill a few pixels instead of the whole outline.
Then I moved onto adding the white flame effects on the side. I used the grass brush option using the brush tool to make it seem like a bonfire on each side. Then using the brush tool again I selected the leaves brush option and places them around the skull.
To finish it off, I added an effect called plastic cover, which causes the image to look more outlined and more bold.
Digi-Pack idea for front cover
As a time-waster, I have decided to start making an idea for my group's digi-pack.
Here is a shot of my plan, of course my artwork isn't great but it pretty much shows the idea (excluding Ben's hair on the skull)

Hello Jessica
Look hun, we'd appreciate it if you didn't tag yourself in photos or videos of days we where filming on as you didn't show up for them. if you choose to retag yourself this will be pointless as Rebecca wil happily not mark them.

Student feedback of our (almost finalized) Music video
We had peers from different groups in media to evaluate our music video and point out the positives or negatives of our music video. In addition to this we had a summary of any elements which could be added in to make our video a successful piece.

Friday Deadline Group 25's last thoughts
25/11/11 this is the Friday Deadline in which my group has to complete our editing. Ill be recording whilst ben and Seb contribute their thoughts for our group as a collective.
This is Sebastian Thoughts
This is Bens thoughts
This is Bens thoughts
I like to say that we are very confident with the editing we have done so far and are basically prioritising our efforts on the second verse of our music video as the rest is done to a good standard.
Using hand break to post my videos
This is how the programme hand break looks when opened, the highlighted blue colour on the right is set on 'iphone and ipod touch' this is the task you select when wanting to convert a video file from the hard drive to a mp4 thus allowing it to be uploaded and played on Blogger successfully.
Selecting the flip disk, memory card and hardrive will open up the tool and display the video files in it.

once selecting the video on the memory card it will be opened on itunes video player
Itunes video player opens. Firstly we have to see if the video plays without any problems before trying to convert the file on handbreak
This played successfully and used Handbreak to convert the file which worked. As shown before and again below.
When I was on Blogger I pressed 'selected a file' and selected the file which was converted and located on the desktop.
This is what happened when selecting the video
The video successfully uploaded
The video posted and displayed on Blogger.

Similarities and differences in filming a music video to a thriller
As explained in my other blog post on skills development. Planning for a music video has similarities from a thriller, you have to plan locations in the pitch and a storyline for the video itself and other things needed to eventually begin filming.
Filming itself was different as it introduced filming takes of the performer miming over the track. Everything had a sense of rhythm as if each clip had the same timing as the music video so it would fit into place when we would be editing it.
Editing was definitely different, we literally sliced the shots into about 10 - 20 clips just from one whole clip. Also there were much more clips involved obviously because there's much more transitions in a music video, especially for a song as ours which has a fast tempo.
Skills development : Overview of approaching planning
Making a music video has it's similarities and differences of making a film, especially in planning.
The beginning of planning the video was pretty much the same as the thriller. We had a pitch of locations we'll shoot at and all the other things needed. However we needed to figure out music video specific things such as performance locations which were different to thriller locations because you'd have a theoretical stage in which the performer would sing on and stay in that position, instead of walking to different locations. The types of shots had their own variants, a tracking shot wasn't completely the same as it would be in the thriller film; we wouldn't be following the performer walking, instead we'd be panning around as he moved in a small area.
I prefer planning a music video over a thriller film as it does give way for more variations of locations and other specific things that you can imagine doing in a music video.

Feedback on Rough Cut
We were given feedback after completing our Rough Cut by Rebecca, these are the few points she said:
Our video should start off with the artist in the first shot rather than the character in the storyline.
There are a few shots that need to be changed or cut up such as when Julien is walking to the camera (0:51 in the video).
Another cut up needed is at the pavement shot (1:20) where we should have Ben singing and Julien walking with transition shots.
2 minutes into the video, Ben needs more shots there.
2:37, We need to do 'something' with the shot (apologies for being less specific here).
2:28, Julien should begin running when the beat drops.
And finally change 2:47 - 2:49 because Ben's too small in the frame (he looks like a dwarf).
One of the bigger points is to have a structure with day and night, which we've been trying to do. Simply the video begins in the daytime then moves into the night.
On a lighter note Rebecca states that, "The ending is brilliant."
Thank you for the feedback Rebecca :D

Skills Development; A brief overview of the new editing you've learned
Filming was very different in comparison to last year as we had to take in mind that the performer being Ben who's the artist had to know the words to the lyrics of the song and a speaker had to be used in order to perfect his vocal timing. Once this first challenge was completed our second focus was on timing of the markers and using the Lipsync on final cut as accurately as possible to make it seem that Ben was the actual artist.
Editing in a whole was much more difficult this year than that of last year, i found it easy to place the base tracks and images on final cut and edit them making them shorter and longer if needed along with match cutting, however when it came to placing markers and chopping the clips in time of a four count beat, this is where I had a lack of ability and Ben and Sab where much more confident and skilled in this department. We used an outstandingly large amount of edits and in total much more footage as well as hours filming the footage compared to last years thriller video. Ultimately more effort was used then last year to complete our video, hopefully we make our teachers proud and achieve a good grade for our Music video.
Feedback on Rough cut
In all our music video had some good shots but we still have a lot to do on the editing, were given feedback after completing our Rough Cut by Rebecca, these are the few points she said and we noted down:

Skills Development; How you approached planning this production
This years approach to music videos has had it's similarities and a majority of differences compared to that of last years As thriller and predominately in the planning.
Planning has been the same in concept of our pitch which was more or less the same as the AS pitch. Excluding the fact that locations were more considered as backdrops rather than a setting in a story like the thriller.
Filming and editing is where the difference is from filming a music video compared to filming a thriller. Shots are dependant on close ups of the artist and pans and tracking shots are used frequently. Editing is different due to the speed of transitions between shots, unlike the more slow paced editing of our thriller. The tempo of or song especially allows us to cut the shots at a fast speed.

Rough Cut Feedback & Editing
In the lesson yesterday we showed the rough cut to our teacher Rebecca and received some feedback.
The first comment was that we should have a shot of the artist at the start of the video before anyone else is shown, instead of starting with the shot of Julien walking through the alleyway.
Another comment was that the speed of the editing and cuts should increase towards the end of the track, as the music gets more intense and builds to a climax. We did this for the last 20 seconds of the video (with lots of fast edits, which Rebecca said was 'fantastic') but the section before this was not up to that standard.
Rebecca also said that all of the shots were good (except 2), and not too dark (as we originally thought some of them would be too dark to use). The 2 shots that are not so good are the ones of myself at 2:47 because the framing makes me 'look like a dwarf'.
I'm planning to make these changes tomorrow lunch time.

OH S#$T! 7 Days Until Music Video Deadline
7days Until Our Final Draft Of Our Music Video Is needed on the 25th |
EMERGENCY; Possibility Of Filming On Monday
There is a slight issue with the number of daytime/afternoon shots that we took, the majority of the day footage and ultimately the night footage not up to the standard we thought they would be. The camera framing wasn't accurate and it was too dark at times. Additionally the night footage out weighs the amount of afternoon shots that are usable, this means that in the beginning of our music video we don't have the significant amount of day time shots we planned to have to meet the duration of time when the night scenes begin.
This has left us with a big decision to make on whether we should film on Monday in acknowledgement of the fact that we are going to be five days from the deadline date.Indeed this will take up a good hour from our editing time which is crucial at this point, however thankfully the extra day footage is not necessarily needed but could benefit the continuity of our music video. hmm....
Friday the 18th Editing rough cut: Hats off to Ben (MASTA B)
Today at 12.15pm the media workshop was available to work in, Ben was fortunately free and took the duty to edit the rough cut in the absence of our group. I had to excuse myself as I hand an appointment with careers to finish of sending my Ucas application for university, however I can not speak for my other two group members absence. I believe he managed this solo task very well and was not deterred from the fact he had to edit all alone. I'd say my pay back for his efforts would be me getting our group 5 extra bloggs on the previous Thursday double lesson as we where behind as a group.
In the Media work shop he continued the editing process . On Thursday we decided on the footage we would implement in our music video, Ben used images that were on the timeline which included the 6 base tracks of his as Masta B, He added markers (shown in red Below) to the timeline in time with the track on the first beat of every bar.
Ben then inserted al the markers, after doing so he then chopped all of the clips on the timeline which were placed in time with each marker to make it easy to cut between shots. This was done by deleting sections of the clip in time with the track.
We decided to use 6-10 shots of the artist on Thursday lesson for a section of our music piece which is performed by Ben and also have around 30-40 shots of my character in his paranormal state of mind.
The two screensots below are taken by Ben I believe that they are shots which will be linked in the final edited rough cut.
Hopefully on Monday as a complete group we can excel on Bens efforts and manage to complete the rough cut as well as possible giving us roughly 5 more days till the deadline, thankfully we are all going to be available at every lunch time workshop, after school workshop and media lessons to complete the final piece.
Editing the Rough Cut
These are some screenshots of the editing process at the moment. As you can see in the second screen shot, I have done quite a lot of work on the very last section of the video, by cutting up a few clips and moving them into place on the timeline to create several fast cuts.

Editing: Adding Markers
After all my lessons had finished today I stayed behind in Media to continue the editing which we started this morning. Once all the shots we decided to use were on the timeline (including the 6 base tracks of myself as the artist), I added markers (shown in red) to the timeline in time with the track on the first beat of every bar.
After all the markers had been inserted, I sliced all of the clips on the timeline in time with each marker to make it easy to cut between shots (by deleting sections of the clip) in time with the track.
The editing process is very different to last year, as there are a lot more shots and the pace of cuts is much faster. We decided to use 6 shots of the artist (played by myself) and we also have around 40 shots of the character in the narrative (Julien).
I am happy with the progress made so far (in just one day of editing), and think we are on track to meet the final deadline next Friday...
Weather implications when filming
Health and safety had to be implemented when filming, my group had to take footage in various weather conditions which was particularly challenging especially on 'Wed 2nd of November' when it was very rainy, we had to wait for the rain to seize which put us behind schedule, when we started filming we then had take care of the equipment and keep it dry and as far from droplets as possible. Additionally the performers health and safety would also be another aspect to be taken in consideration. I slipped when filming a running scene which could have been a disastrous outcome and potentially could have jeopardised further filming due to injury.

How Seb is feeling today
Seb finds editing to be a challenging part of the process of creating a music video. The barrage of clips, one on top of the other causes Seb to malfunction and lose morale. Ben has been exceptional in keeping Seb's hopes up by reassuring him that the group will make it through together.

College Closed: Monday 7th November
On Monday the 7th of November, college was closed due to there being a college opening day on the Saturday, which meant that the college was closed on monday so all teachers & staff had 2 days off like a normal weekend. As a result of this our set is behind on editing however we should be able to pick up the momentum and be successful.
Filming : Seb Scenes and why they weren't used
We decided to try and film shots of Seb as a second motif. He plays as the character who constantly appears out of no where, causing Julien to increase in paranoia. Here are 2 shots of Seb:
Walking into the camera
Sneak past behind Julien
We decided in the end not to use Seb as a motif as it proved to be a bit cheesy and we didn't have enough good ideas to film more shots of him.
Editing: iShowU Capture
We used the program iShowU to record what we were doing on screen while editing
Editing: Base Track 1
This is a section of what will be in our music video. however only a percentage of this footage will be used as some bits are too dark, camera work is a bit rugid at parts, but in all here are some good panning and close up shots.
Editing: Session 1
Today is our first full lesson editing as we missed the first lesson this week as college was closed.
Here are some screenshots of the editing process, using Final Cut Pro
These are some screen shots of us Editing a small section of our music video. Were particularly working on the night scenes shots of the video in this section of the lesson.

This is a shot of Julien walking in Old street, in final cut we where working on linking this shot with Bens performance scenes then match cutting it back to Julien walking.
