What is the function of a music music video?

Function Of Music Video
The function of a music video is to publicise the artist. The Artist is both the narrator and Character in the video as she tells the story a swell as being the main focus point. In some situations videos that are written for particular images from the movie in the video, two examples are as shown below:

Celine Dion My Heart Will Go On: Titanic

Leona Lewis I see you: Avatar

A quote from the internet "music video or song video is a short film integrating a song and imagery, produced for promotional or artistic purposes. Modern music videos are primarily made and used as a marketing device intended to promote the sale of music recordings. Although the origins of music videos date back much further, they came into prominence in the 1980s, when MTV based their format around the medium. Prior to the 80s, these works were described by various terms including illustrated song filmed insert, "promotional (promo) film", "promotional clip" or "film clip".

"Music videos use a wide range of styles of film making techniques, including animation, live action filming, documentaries, and non-narrative approaches such as abstract film. Some music videos blend different styles, such as animation and live action. Many music videos do not interpret images from the song's lyrics, making it less literal than expected"

Reflect on the new skills I've learned when completed Lip sync tutorial

Give a brief overview of the filming and editing of your lip synch video?

  • When filming we found the location of filming our video a difficulty as we were disturbed by dogs in the park and people walking in past the cameras as we were filming.
  • We found difficulty mastering the lyrics
  • We had difficulty picking who would sing the song as all three of us were making mistakes in the filming, until finally Demi stepped up and we completed the scene.
  • Editing was pretty easy as we already had a tutorial on the music video, which was already on the desktops.
  • I am very pleased with the final edit as it was entertaining and it is funny
How easy was this skill to develop?

  • With continuous practicing I think that the skill was easy to master
  • I sometimes had difficulties with placing the tracks markers so they aligned so that when the track began it was in time.

Technical skills that you developed during the course of the AS year

In the duration of the AS year of Media Studies I am proud to state that I’ve developed numerous skills. Examples are labelled below:

  • The equipment I used during the Thriller Movie production, SD memory cards, digital cameras, tripods, Mac computers and Mac & editing programme.

 SD memory cards

Video Camera

Tripods

Mac computer

& Programme

Using Different software programming to install titling, sound affects and editing, examples are:

  •                 LiveType - This was used to create the titles for My Thriller opening

  • Handbrake - Was for converting high quality files exported from Final Cut to lower quality so that they could be uploaded to the group media blogs easily and efficiently .

  •  Final Cut Pro - used to edit the footage we filmed, and also to cut clips of other Thrillers to post on the blog as part of the planning stage.

  •   Logic Pro - This was used to create musical affects for the soundtracks

Reflecting back on the AS year: Technical Skills

During the AS year of Media Studies, I developed a number of skills. Some of theses were:

1. Using equipment to film the Thriller opening (camcorders, tripods, SD cards), and how to use it effectively to film professional-looking shots. We also used digital cameras to take pictures when we were filming.

2. Using different software to edit and create sound & titles. This included

  • Final Cut Pro - used to edit the footage we filmed, and also to cut clips of other Thrillers to post on the blog as part of the planning stage.
  • LiveType - We used this to create the titles for the Thriller opening
  • Soundtrack Pro - used to create the sound effects and diegetic sounds which formed part of the soundtrack.
  • Logic Pro - I used Logic to create the musical part of the soundtrack
  • Handbrake - used to convert high quality files exported from Final Cut to lower quality so they could be uploaded to the blog quickly.
3. Using websites such as Blogger to show our research, planning and evaluation of our work.

Jpeg Digipak that was made in the summer lessons

My Cd cover For J-Discovery
Evaluate the Strengths and weaknesses of the Digipak (Promo)

Strengths
  • I believe that my Cd cover is colourful and this is a beneficial as it is appealing to the eyes of purchasers
  • The consistency of the park theme on both the front and back cover of the Cd cover
  • The Distinctive blue Font font for the song title and album
  • The formatting of the song list at the back Cd cover
  • The bar code on the back of the Cd cover makes it look professional
Weaknesses
  • Cd cover doesn't have the name of the record label that J-discovery is signed to
  • Doesn't notify the producers
  • Doesn't look professional due to contrasting Fonts title, album name and song titles
