Teachers example of bad Digipak and Advert

In today's lesson Dan gave us various examples of good and bad Digipaks in addition with Advertisements. He then designs examples of Bad work which was then presented to the class and we analysed the reason which made the designs poor.

An example of a Bad Digipak (front cover)

  • Inconsistent font
  • Various colours
  • Text over image
  • Edited imagery which is poor
  • Placement of bar code in wrong area
  • Just rubbish XD

An example of the Inside of  a Bad Digipak
  • The inside of the Digipak doesnt follow the below;
  1. What should be on the inside of the Digipak?
    Graphic design:
    1. Visual style (font, colour, design) established on the front of the Digipak is continued on the inner panels

An example of a Bad Advertisement

  • Bad spelling
  • Bad placement of the Digipak image
  • Inconsistent colour scheme
  • Inconsistent font
  • Images being covered by Digipak
  • Missing label sign and references
  • Could use comments from News articles or known music reviews

Good Digi-Pack Analysis

Previous Years Advert Analysis

This particular Advertisement is good, it uses two fonts, one which fits well with the title of 'Its my time' its a digital clock font and a more italic bold font is used when giving reference to review comments about the artist tracks.

Analysis of Previous Students' Work

As part of the research into Digipacks, I went on last year's blog to find examples of good (and bad) Digipacks and advertisements.

Previous Years Digipak Analysis

The front of the Digipak isn't badly designed however it doesn't keep its consistency with the rest of the Digipak
  Don'ts
  • Stretch images, this will make them out of focus
  • Use layer styles
  • Use unnecessary effects. Any effects used Must suit the genre
  • Place text across the artists face
  • Use a font simply because you 'like it'
  • Feel you need a separate photo on every panel-Be creative

Overall Digipak style:
  • Uses 3-4
  • No More that 2 different fonts;
  1. Includes element of graphic designer
  2. Not simply images lifted from the video
  3. Must create some sort of visual link with advertisement

Previous Years Advert Analysis

I particularly like this advertisement because it is consistent to the Digipak and the effects used to shadow out some of the image. The same font used and none other which draws attention on the image.  Reviews are used on the advertisement which I believe makes it  very professional.

Previous Years Good Digipak Analysis

This is an example from last years work its a good piece of work because it follows the correct conventions of a Digipak cover listed below.
Do's
  • Use a clear font
  • Use appropriate sizes for: Images, font
  • Use clear photos that are in focus
  • Use photos that are appropriate shape for the page
  • Use a layout that follows the rule of thirds for composition
  • Use an appropriate type face that follows:
  1. Genre and convention
  • Be careful where you place the font. follow genre conventions and be clear from a distance
  • Follow the conventions of the 3 colour rule and use colour that is appropriate for:
  1.  Images
  2. Font
  3. Background.
  • Think carefully about how you see and integrate:
  1. Font,
  2. Text& language and image
  3.  (Remember that placement of text next to an image will anchor specific meaning
  • Use appropriate industry logos abd conventions, properly positioned:
  1. Barcode
  2. Date
  3. Copyright
  4. Titles
  5. Artist name
